Free tool

Listing Checker.

Paste any used car ad from Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji or AutoTrader. In seconds you'll see the red flags, a price check, and the questions to ask the seller.

Try an example:

2. Car details (optional, we'll read them from the ad if we can)
3. Compare the price (optional)

Search the same make, model and similar year and mileage. Enter 2–3 prices you see.

4. Anything the seller said or did? (optional)

Free. No sign-up. The ad text stays in your browser.

What the Listing Checker looks for

  • Scam patterns: deposits, shipping offers, "I'm overseas" stories, gift card or crypto payments.
  • Curbsiders: unlicensed dealers posing as private sellers ("selling for my uncle").
  • History warnings: rebuilt or salvage titles, liens, odometer problems, accidents.
  • Condition clues: "as-is", warning lights, "just needs a simple fix".
  • Price and mileage: deals that are too good, and mileage that doesn't add up.
  • VIN: whether it's valid, matches the ad, and has open safety recalls.

Questions

Is the Listing Checker free?

Yes. It's free to use as many times as you like, with no sign-up.

Does it work with Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji and AutoTrader?

Yes. Copy the text of any ad and paste it in. We can't open the link for you, so pasting the ad text is what lets us check it.

What happens to what I paste?

The check runs in your browser and the ad text isn't sent to us. If you enter a VIN, only the VIN is sent to the U.S. government's public vehicle database (NHTSA) to look it up.

Can it tell me if a car is good?

No tool can do that from an ad. It spots warning signs in the listing and gives you questions to ask. To know the car's real condition, someone has to check the car itself.
